The beauty of the
161,508 acres of the Sam Houston Forest surrounds Timber Lodge RV Park and
adds to the many existing recreational amenities that are available for
visitors to the RV Park.
You'll want to walk along the Lone Star
Hiking Trail and visit the Double Lake Recreational Area or Big Creek Scenic Area in the
Forest for a beautiful view of what Mother Nature has to offer in southeastern Texas.
Those wanting to shop will enjoy visiting
nearby Coldsprings to browse through the quaint shops, look for antiques and visit the
local museums. Conroe offers more hours of shopping in its variety of county western
shops, malls, shopping centers and factory outlet center, all just minutes
from Timber Lodge RV Resort.
Outdoor enthusiasts will want to visit
nearby lakes Livingston and Conroe where water sports of all kinds and equipment rentals
to enable you to enjoy them are available.
Huntsville is the ideal place for those
interested in the history of the region. Two of Sam Houston's homes, the 1848 Woodland and
his last home, Steamboat House erected in 1848 are located within the Sam Houston Memorial
Museum Complex. Mr. Houston's law office and a museum containing his belongings and
artifacts from the Texas Revolution Era are also found on the premises. In Oakwood
Cemetery, a large stone monument marks his grave.
The Alabama - Coushatta Indian culture can
be observed firsthand when you visit the oldest Indian settlement in Texas, the
Alabama-Coushatta Indian Reservation. The museum features dioramas of their history along
with a 20-minute train ride, historical tours and a visit to the Living Indian Village to
see the authentic tribal dances.
A vacation in the area would not be complete
without traveling the hour's drive south to Houston, the nation's fourth largest city and
one of the country's largest seaports. The Astrodomain in Houston is a sports,
entertainment and convention complex famous for it's Astrodome. AstroHall and AstroArena
across from the Astrodome is the 75 acre Six Flags AstroWorld, an amusement park with more
than 100 rides for the whole family's enjoyment.
